Are you setup
for success?
In the event of a fire
at your complex will your tenants be able to reach safety quickly?
Will firefighters be able to access your tenants safely and without
barriers to trip them up?
Make Sure Your
Tenants Know Their Exits
Remind your tenants that there will always be two ways to exit
from each unit.
The primary exit is the
apartment door that leads either directly outside or to a stairway or
through a hallway to a stairway that leads to the outside of the
building.
In most situations, the
secondary exit will be a window. It is important to make sure that
bedroom windows are openable from the inside and do not have guards
covering them.
Make Sure Your
Tenants Keep Their Exits Clear
Properly
maintained fire doors and exits will greatly reduce the chance of
being killed or injured in a fire.
Maintain the apartment
doors in good condition. This includes making sure hinges and latches
are all working properly.
Make sure the apartment
door lock can be opened from the inside without the use of a key.
Keep exits and
stairways free of obstructions at all time. Do not allow the storing
of anything such as baby strollers, bicycles or rubbish on or under
stairways or on stairway landings.
